ABOUT GARETH TALBOT
I have worked in commercial and academic archaeology and heritage management for over 20 years and am a full Member of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists. I joined ORCA in January 2023, after many years working in heritage consultancy for the likes of CH2M, AB Heritage and Atkins. During this time I have worked on a large number of different sorts of projects, from large-scale infrastructure like the A9 Dualling, HS2 and the TransPennine Railway Improvements; through to conservation management plans for the likes of Knaresborough Castle and Castle Hill, Huddersfield; masterplanning for the Diriyah Gate project in Saudi Arabia; and heritage strategies for places like the Dounreay Nuclear Research Establishment and the Atomic Weapons Establishment. I also spent two years as Transport Scotland\'s historic environment advisor (seconded from Atkins), which I thoroughly enjoyed. Between 2012 and 2014 I worked for the organising committee for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games as their environment & sustainability manager, possibly one of the greatest two years of my working life to date. At ORCA I am a senior project officer, and lead on all things historic environment and EIA. In addition to this, I have been known to pop out onto site (only when it\'s sunny of course). Outside of work I am a leader for the Orkney Young Archaeologists Clubs and the chair of Firth School parent\'s council. I enjoy spending time with my family, enjoying everything Orkney has to offer - as well as the odd cycle trip here and there.
