About Gareth C.

Gareth Collins currently serves as the Department of State\'s desk officer for Hong Kong and Macau after tours as a staff assistant in Beijing, and as a political officer in Port au Prince and Rangoon, where he also temporarily served as Consular Section Chief during the post-coup period and worked to help free multiple detained Americans. Gareth is a proud University of Michigan and Johns Hopkins SAIS alumnus who is trilingual in French and Mandarin, which he grew up learning in Hong Kong. He is particularly interested in the convergence of economic, tech, and political issues with respect to the PRC, and enjoys playing guitar and hiking when on home leave.
