About Garet Fryar Hedlund

Garet is passionate about helping the lives of children and youth, especially those in early childhood as well as all who are houseless, touched by the child welfare system, or involved with the juvenile justice system. Every week for five years, Garet dedicated part of her free time to volunteering with homeless children in our nation\'s capital and still advocates for families who are houseless whenever she can. After years of living and working in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, she now resides in her home state of South Carolina. Professionally, she focused on national and state level data, policy trends, and exemplary programs through her research and writing before returning to the classroom. After years of working in direct services with children—teaching toddlers in a child care center and primary age students at a nonprofit Montessori school—she returned to her roots in child and youth research. Working remotely, Garet is responsible for coordinating a portfolio of pre-award activities, including analyzing requests for proposals and preparing and submitting proposals. She also supports business development efforts that assess the alignment of service offerings and areas of expertise with opportunities from federal, state, and private foundations.
