About Gardner Tabon
Currently serving as CapMetro\'s EVP & Chief Safety Officer and SMS Executive. My experiences also include, but are not limited to serving as AED Office of System Safety/CSO at the NJ Transit, Corp—the largest statewide public transit system in the U.S. —which operates commuter rail service in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania on the Amtrak Northeast Corridor between Trenton, NJ and New York, NY, 11 additional lines throughout New Jersey, three light rail systems, and bus transportation. In this role, I was responsible for research, development, implementation, management, and maintenance of safety-related programs for over employees. Our most exciting work had been the development and deployment of more effective employee and public messaging and in-person engagement programs. These “safety blitzes” have resulted in significantly fewer injuries and incidents compared to previous years.Prior to joining the New Jersey Transit, I was fortunate to have led safety efforts at the Saudi Railway Company, as well as Valley Metro, the regional public transportation agency serving the Phoenix metropolitan area. Recently, I was appointed by U.S. Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx to serve a three-year term on USDOT’s Northeast Corridor Safety Committee.While I enjoy all aspects of my job, I find the greatest fulfillment from being a bridge builder—nurturing critical relationships with the public and internal teams.
