About Yuan Gao
I ship production LLM improvements that directly and measurably improve the experience of M365 Copilot users as part of Microsoft’s Turing Team. My work spans foundational research, data curation, post-training, evaluation, and end-to-end infrastructure.I’ve also worked on mathematical optimization models and methods for machine learning, game theory and market design. I have published many papers in major conferences and journals such as NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, and Operations Research. Building long-term memory features in M365 Copilot using RAG, agent systems, long-context modeling, and in-house data curation and post-training techniques. These capabilities leverage conversation history and enterprise graph data to significantly improve tool use and response quality.I own the end-to-end feature lifecycle from design and implementation through offline evaluation and metric definition, and iterative online flighting, working with a small, highly capable core feature team to ensure quality, reliability, and user impact.All features that we developed have shipped to end users and have received strong positive feedback.
