ABOUT GALIT KLEINER
I am a Movement Disorders Neurologist specializing in geriatric movement disorders, dedicated to improving the lives of people living with neurodegenerative diseases and developmental disabilities. My work is deeply personal; as the parent of children with developmental disabilities and complex medical challenges, I work with the strong belief that through innovative approaches, evidence-based interventions and systems advocacy, our society can empower individuals with neurodegenerative diseases and disabilities while supporting their families and caregivers. At Baycrest Hospital, I work with a multidisciplinary team which specializes in the care of complex patients with neurological diseases and includes neurologists, physiatrists, nurses, PT, speech language pathologists, social workers, PSWs and dietician, to provide a person-centered approach including pharmacological interventions, customized exercise programs and all forms of care and support for people living with neurodegenerative diseases throughout the disease continuum.Guided both by lived and professional experience, my work aims to close critical gaps in care and create practical, cost-effective solutions that help individuals with neurodegenerative conditions live their fullest lives rooted in respect and dignity. With the support of the Baycrest Academy of Research and Education and external funders, I am currently leading a team that is building a platform to advance research, education, and advocacy to pursue an on-label indication for the use of Botulinum toxin (BoNT) in the treatment of paratonia – a form of increased muscle tone developed in advanced dementia that negatively impacts patient care and comfort.We have recently been successful in grant funding to support some of our development platform announced
