ABOUT GAIL TAYLOR

My motivation to increase my capacity and effectiveness in leadership and administration led me back to school to develop my background in leadership and administration. While I served successfully for 12 years as a school administrator, adding pedagogy to my former experiences, have made me even better prepared to lead not only at the school level but the district and state levels as well. During my 18 years as a classroom teacher, I not only positively influenced the educational results for children, but I grew as an educator. While working as a classroom teacher, I served on the math professional development team for the district. I also worked with the National Core Knowledge Foundation as I was selected as one of the national trainers to help schools across the country implement the Core Knowledge Sequence school reform model. My work with the National Core Knowledge Foundation eventually led me to charter schools. In the charter school environment, I began working as an Educational Consultant in the Office of Charter Schools with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. I served in this capacity for six years from 19••••04 during the start-up and implementation of charter schools in North Carolina. In 2004, I was selected to serve as the Executive Director/Principal of Carter Community Charter School, a K-8 charter school in Durham, NC. Again, my involvement with charter schools opened the door for other opportunities in the charter community. Specifically, I was one of the founding members of the North Carolina Alliance for Public Charter Schools where I served as Vice-President of the Board. I was also selected by the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools to participate in its inaugural Charter Schools Leaders of Color Capital Hill Initiative. My resume reflects my experiences.
