Provide legal advice, counsel, and assistance to the Tribal Council and departments in relation to their duties and the operation of the Tribe and its programs, projects, and services. Draft ordinances and policies that assist in the implementation of the Tribe’s self-governance objectives. Provide opinions on drafts, documents, and policies concerning regulatory and environmental matters, as well as attend meetings to ensure compliance with appropriate legal obligations. Assist Tribal Council and other departments in negotiation and drafting of contracts, as well as reviewing and approving contracts proposed to be entered into by the tribe. Provide legal advice related to employment issues; and, provides legal opinions to the Department of Human Resources and drafts personnel policies and procedures. Represent the Yurok Tribe and its entities in court and administrative hearings, including representation of the Tribe in Tribal Court and Indian Child Welfare cases.
