I am the senior writer and editor in the Food Safety and Consumer Protection Directorate, Policy and Programs Branch. I supervise two staff who write briefing notes, ministerial correspondence, media responses and various parliamentary documents (such as Question Period cards). This includes editing their work, helping them make decisions and advocating on their behalf.I also do the following:• provide plain language advice and coaching to all staff in the directorate (and many across the Agency)• do plain language editing• coordinate input into media queries on food topics• coordinate approvals on Question Periods cards about food safety• create, manage and improve processes, particularly approval processes • negotiate with managers and directors on input, messaging and deadlines• contribute to and participate in several communities of practice• participate in several CFIA diversity networks

I help organizations communicate clearly about their work so that they can reach their audiences and stakeholders. This helps them to strategically plan, implement and achieve their goals. I do this by providing communications advice and plain language writing and editing.I am a writer, editor, coordinator and planner. • I have extensive experience in writing and editing materials for diverse audiences. • I have written and edited many one-off items but I have also managed large communications projects, including those across several government departments.I participate in national and international work on plain language and editing.• I am an expert delegate on the ISO Technical Committee 37: Language and terminology for the plain language standards it\'s working on. Part 1 and Part 2 have been published.• I chair the Standard Localization and Implementation Committee for the International Plain Language Federation. Part of our work involves communications for when the parts of the standard are published.• I also represent Editors Canada on the Canadian General Standards Board committee that is updating the standard on translation services (CAN/CGSB-13•••••17).I was on the national executive council of the Editors\' Association of Canada, serving as a director. • I contributed to setting the organization\'s strategic goals.• I participated in governance work (including policy writing). • I supervised volunteers and their work.You can see the details of each director position I\'ve held, in the Volunteer Experience section below.I co-chaired Editing Goes Global in 2015.• It was the first international editing conference.
