My PhD research aims to develop data-driven tools (i.e maps, geostatistical modelling frameworks) enabling detection of spatio-temporal patterns and trends in malaria transmission to support malaria control interventions at local scale in Benin republic. Specific objectives are to:1. Describe the state-of-art of methods, indicators and covariates used for malaria hotspot detection in endemic settings worldwideWe seek to (i) identify and describe the methods historically used for malaria hotspots analysis or clustering from to 2024;(ii) identify and evaluate covariates that have been utilized in malaria hotspots analysis; and identify research gap in the field and provide insightful recommendations for future researches2. Describe spatio-temporal risk in malaria transmission in Benin over the last decadeWe aim to (i) compile and analyze historical malaria incidence data from January 2017 to December 2023;(ii) map spatio-temporal trends in malaria transmission at the district level in identify high-risk periods and regions for targeted intervention strategies.3. Explore novel methods for the identification of malaria hotspots in Benin We aim to (i) compile and analyze mosquitoes’ abundance data at household-level, and malaria incidence at district level and healthcare usage data at health zone data;(ii) develop and test joint modeling approach for malaria hotspot detection from the above-mentioned data.
