About Gabriel Kooyers

With over 22 years of experience in teaching and machining, I am passionate about sharing my knowledge and skills with the next generation of makers and innovators. As an instructor at Van Buren Tech, I help students learn the fundamentals and applications of manual mill/lathe, Mastercam, and Haas/Hurco machines. I also mentor the F.I.R.S.T robotics team, inspiring them to pursue STEM careers and develop their creativity and problem-solving abilities. In my current role, I design and deliver engaging and hands-on lessons that cover the theory and practice of advanced manufacturing. I use Titans of CNC Mill acadamy and Mastercam software to create and edit CAD/CAM models, and operate and maintain Haas/Hurco CNC machines. I also teach students how to troubleshoot mechanical issues, and use precision measuring tools and instruments. I am proud of the achievements of my students, who have won multiple awards and scholarships in regional and national competitions. I am always looking for new ways to improve my teaching methods and curriculum, and to collaborate with other instructors and industry partners.
