ABOUT GABE SCHENZ

I care about my work. I really enjoy the work of being an engineer and I am always keeping an eye out for ways to make it better for the teams I work with and the company I work for. Caring is not something you can get from AI (although I do enjoy using AI in my work).I like to think of myself as a \"systems thinker\". That might mean something different to you, but for me it is a combination of working at different levels throughout a tech stack and rationalizing the tradeoffs that are made throughout it. Do that enough and you start to build a deep intuition about system behavior, and that\'s pretty neat. While many of my fellow engineers worship at the alter of complexity, I will be found kneeling at the alter of simplicity instead. Keep it simple. YAGNI. When working with distributed systems this is especially important, and avoiding accidental complexity is the way to get things to scale. You may notice that I am not using the latest buzzwords (mostly, at least) as I don\'t care if the current AI systems identify me as someone\'s ideal candidate. I want to work with real people to solve meaningful and challenging problems, and learn a bunch while having fun with other decent humans. I do that through system design and implementation, focused on understandability, and ensuring high quality and sufficient observability to operate. It is only through running these things that they derive any value, and being able to do so effectively is important to me. Because, as I mentioned earlier, I care about my work.
