Supervising, planning and coordinating the activities of Grid Planning and Reliability Section which oversees policies and programs to transform and modernize the distribution grid to achieve California’s greenhouse gas reduction goals while maintaining safe and reliable service and increasing the role of distributed energy resources to provide ratepayer benefit. Specifically, the section provides technical expertise and implementation oversight of policies and programs related to distribution resource planning, interconnection of distributed energy resources, procurement and policy for energy storage, electric reliability, smart inverters, smart grid, advanced metering infrastructure, and grid modernization. Primary responsibilities include: • Providing technical expertise and strategic oversight of policy development for Section • Supervising 5 Analysts and 3 Utility Engineers including staff assignments; work product review, ensuring policy consistency and work product quality; staff development and appraisal, including training, hiring and promoting, employee reviews, and discipline. • Oversight responsibility for these key Commission proceedings: o Distribution Resource Plans (AB 327) o Energy Storage Rulemaking (AB 2514, AB 2868) o Interconnection Rulemaking / Rule 21 o Undergrounding Rulemaking o Reliability Reporting Rulemaking (AB 66) • Coordinates the Section’s work with other Energy Division sections and other Commission divisions, and actively participates as a member of Energy Division’s management team. • Appears as a representative of the Commission in various venues such as the Legislature, Governor’s office, seminars, conferences, and industry meetings.
