ABOUT FULIANG WENG

Fuliang has been working in the field of human language technologies and conversational AI for about 30 years, ranging over speech signal processing, speech recognition, language understanding, dialog system, multi-modal interaction, and intelligent assistance. He has been associated with several leading research institutions in the field, including the LTI of Carnegie Mellon University, the CRL of NMSU, the Speech Lab of Stanford Research Institute, Intel China Research Center, Bosch Research, and Knowles IA. He led the R&D of conversational AI and was the chief expert at Bosch Research responsible for shaping the strategic directions in the field of User Interaction (UI) for Robert Bosch Corporation, a multi-national with $80 Billion revenue and more than employees worldwide. Fuliang\'s contributions include the design and development of the GSL representation and understanding mechanism for Nuance Communications at SRI, and the driver for the design and development of conversational intelligent dialogue tech & multi-modal interaction tech at Bosch. He was the PI of NIST funded \"Drive your car with conversational language\"(20••••06) with Stanford, SRI, and VW. He co-invented many algorithms that greatly improve the performance of UI component and system technologies. He is a pioneer of the conversational AI for automotive industry. His group is a driving force behind the award-wining natural speech dialogue system in GM CUE. Fuliang did his undergraduate and graduate studies at Fudan University, and is an author of about140 publications with more than 70 research papers, nearly 70 issued & pending patents. He is a recipient of several national and industrial awards from China, SRI, and GM Tech World. He received twice Bosch Worldwide \"Inventors of the Year\" awards (2009, 2017), twice Bosch North America \"Inventors of the Year\" awards (2012, 2015), and is listed as one of the top inventors in 130 years of Bosch history
