Managing the befriending projects (for carers and people living with dementia), including managing the befriender volunteers, and managing the budget and grant. Researching, developing, and delivering breaks for carers (day and overnight) throughout Scotland, managing the budget and grant with community engagement. Managing all volunteer program within caring services from initial application, inductions, and training. Writing of all handbooks and guidelines. Leading the garden project using social and therapeutic horticulture to people living with dementia and carers to members of the public. Creating the Eric Liddell Peace Garden at Morningside United Church. Co-leading and creating wellbeing walks, with a focus on nature and mental health in the South Edinburgh area. Ad-hoc running the carer/dementia lunch (Liddell Lions) and open community wellbeing lunch. Mental Health First Aider offering weekly drop in slots, and contactable to book my time; occasionally giving talks on mental health, wellbeing, and mindfulness. Networking with other charities to help identify, shape and lead the delivery of new projects and services.

ABOUT FI BROWN MCIHORT
I work at the intersection of mental health, community care and nature-based practice, with a focus on unpaid carers. My experience spans service leadership, programme design, governance oversight, and organisational strategy.As a 2024 UK Churchill Fellow, I authored Unpaid Carers’ Mental Health: Using Social and Therapeutic Horticulture, informed by research across Sweden, Norway and Denmark exploring trauma-aware green care in statutory and community systems.I provide governance and strategic oversight as Chair of Transition Edinburgh South, supporting board development, organisational direction, and community-led projects. Within the non-profit sector, I lead multi-strand wellbeing services, translating evidence into operational practice, impact measurement, and continuous improvement.With a PhD in Geography and interdisciplinary training in horticulture, psychology, and mental health, I bring systems thinking, trauma-informed leadership, and operational expertise to collaborative projects that bridge nature, health, and social impact.
