About Fernando Santos-Campos
Hello everyone, my name is Fernando Santos-Campos and I am a recent first generation graduate from UC Berkeley with a major in Legal Studies and a minor in Global Studies. This fall I am studying abroad in France and will primarily be taking French classes. I am really passionate about advocating for Indigenous peoples\', specifically Oaxacan Indigenous people present within the United States. Being Mixtec and feeling stripped of my culture/identity because of forced migration has fostered my drive behind making positive impacts for my communities both in the US and in Mexico. Currently, I am working as a paralegal for Warren Law Firm in San Francisco, an immigration and business law firm. I hope to eventually pursue law school, to continue educating myself on how to best use my privilege to serve underrepresented communities. The intersectionality of being Indigenous and Queer is my reality, and it has definitely led me to become a person who knows how to deal with intense hardships, and has prepared me for the intensity that comes within the legal field. I plan to eventually reside Oaxaca, MX to deeply study transnationalism, and its impact on my Indigenous communities of Mixtec people of Oaxaca. Both of my parents immigrated to the United States in the 1990\'s, like the rest of the folks within their generation from our pueblo, and it is important that these records of migration and experiences are accounted for when we discuss the impacts of settler colonialism and the presence of anti-Indigeneity that lingers within our societies. I am open to new connections and any opportunities within the legal field that foster social change and direct impact. Best, Fernando
