ABOUT FRUZSINA LUCY FORD
My father had a vegetable garden in the British town where I grew up. His dream was to live a self-sustained life one day. We used wash water to flush our toilets and never wasted food. It was inconvenient and unglamorous at the time but somehow the seeds he planted, both real and metaphorical, stuck with me and have influenced how I live, work, and raise my family. Part of the important work I do at TELUS is being Co-Chair on the National Sustainability Council (NSC); a council to enhance TELUS’ commitment to sustainability governance and to deepen a culture of sustainability within the organization. The NSC supports TELUS\' Green Teams and overlooks the direction of five main resource groups: Waste diversion Sustainability Innovation Challenge Sustainable procurement Marketing (Communications & Events) Alumni stewardship Since I have been part of the NSC, I have expanded the Council’s reach to Slack (9k+ members), set annual strategy, guided the council through a brand re-fresh, ran a successful external speaker event, recruited new members, and rekindled relationships with Green Team chapters while organizing community clean-ups. Academically, I mixed the creative with business. I graduated with a degree in drama but ended up in a graduate program at one of the UK\'s biggest banks that led to a position in project management. Professionally, I took my skillset into event management, and after completing my MBA, started my own special events business. I managed everything from website building and marketing through to the accounts. After a foray into running non-profit, then corporate events, I now run marquee events at TELUS. I have always put my unique skillset to work in diverse project management endeavors where I excel. If you ask those who know me well, they will likely say, one of my greatest attributes is organizing. So it was also no surprise when I took project management, and my commitment to sustainable best practices, and became a candidate for a Green PMP certification. When I think about raising my daughter and imagine a childhood without the wonder of the underwater world, it gives me pause that the Little Mermaid, and Finding Nemo, could soon be just that - works of fiction. But I have realized small actions can amount to big changes over the long term. Where there is hope, there is possibility. Where there is possibility, there is always the chance to make an impact. If you would like to discuss sustainability, or how I successfully now grow my own vegetable garden, reach out! I look forward to meeting you.
