ABOUT FREDERIK TJONNELAND

While working as an Engineer at Local Motors, I designed, analyzed, and prototyped a wide range of vehicle components and systems, with a focus on integrating cutting-edge technologies such as additive manufacturing and autonomous driving. I was later promoted to Chief Engineer, where I led a major vehicle development program. At Nikola Motors, I applied my experience to the design of key systems for a Class 8 truck, including a battery pack mounting system and a patented hydrogen tank mounting structure. More recently, at Swarmbotics AI, I expanded into ground robotics, developing lightweight, scalable chassis systems to support autonomous robot swarms for defense applications. Working at startups has also given me the opportunity to contribute across a diverse set of projects, including concept vehicles, a cargo drone, an autonomous bus, and structural systems throughout the full product development lifecycle. Coming from a Formula SAE background, I am no stranger to hard work and long hours when it matters. I am dedicated and willing to do what it takes to get the job done. For me, engineering is more than a career—it is also a hobby. Outside of work, I enjoy wrenching on my car and working on personal projects. Over the years, I have designed and built a go-kart, rebuilt my car’s engine twice, and developed carbon fiber go-kart wheels. Driven by strong intellectual curiosity, I enjoy learning, solving complex problems, and continuously developing new skills. I welcome opportunities that allow me to do all three.
