Freddy’s journey included dumpster diving, panhandling, and battling alcohol abuse while experiencing homelessness. Today, Freddy Shegog has emerged as a successful college graduate and an inspiring public speaker dedicated to sharing his transformational journey to recovery. Freddy’s story is a powerful testament to resilience, support, and the possibility of overcoming adversity. He has graced the stages of educational conferences, colleges, and venues nationwide, delivering keynotes that resonate with audiences from all walks of life. Freddy\'s most recent national tour consisted of keynoting convocations where he shared the importance of educating the whole student. His impact extends beyond the podium as Freddy actively contributes to community outreach initiatives. As a member of multiple boards, including the Student’s Recovery Board and the Board of B.H.I, he supports initiatives focused on equity, justice, substance misuse disorders, and mental health conditions in teens. Freddy’s commitment to fostering an entrepreneurial mindset is evident in his consulting role with the Clara Brown Entrepreneurial Academy in Aurora, Colorado. Freddy’s influence reaches legislative corridors, having been involved in the funding of the Pennsylvania Hunger Free Campus Grant Program through his participation in press conferences with Governor Tom Wolfe. His life story, documented in the Chronicle of Higher Education\'s March 2022 edition, “The Redemption of Frederick Shegog,” earned the Education Writers Award for a feature story. Frederick\'s story was also featured on Fox29 and 6ABC. Recognized as a Philadelphia Region\'s Black Men Icon of 2020, Freddy is a proud honors graduate of Delaware County Community College and a summa cum laude alumnus of West Chester University, where he also served as the commencement speaker. He just received his M.P.A. from West Chester, which will serve as the credit card into the rooms of policy for affecting change. Freddy remains deeply passionate about the future, particularly the impact on youth, stating, “College should not only change my bank account but my soul as well!”
