Developing the strategy for the integrated safety and security assurance case to substantiate the C&I design of the Rolls-Royce SMR in multiple jurisdictions. ABOUT FRED POLLARD

I am a technical leader with over 15 years\' experience working in safety-related roles, predominantly focussing on functional safety with a particular expertise in safety-critical software, including complex hardware such as FPGAs. Over my career to-date, I have worked across many industries including civil and defence nuclear, rail, oil and gas, and defence and aware of the differing focus between industries applying seemingly similar international standards and best practice.I have undertaken work from the system level examining overall functional safety at various stages in the safety lifecycle; developed C&I architectures; developed justification arguments for safety-critical software with reference to international standards; and directly analysed and assessed software and HDL at a source code level. As part of my work, I have also provided training and presented technical material to clients at many levels of the nuclear and defence industry.In terms of my technical leadership roles, this has ranged from growing a team of engineers in my discipline, responsible not only for their pastoral care but also their personal and professional development; to direct technical authority, responsibility and accountability for ensuring that systems, devices and components will fulfil their safety functions and providing suitable justifications in a way that is proportionate and doesn\'t lose sight of the need for projects to ultimately deliver.I also have experience of bid management, capability management, resource management and project management, which has both informed and has been informed by my technical expertise.
