ABOUT FRED LEAHY

Fred has been a volunteer with the American Red Cross for 20 years. He started as a member of the ARCBA Board of Directors. Prior to joining the Red Cross, Fred was one of the pioneers in the “Large computer” industry. His primary area of responsibility was managing analytical services. He was responsible for building one of the first networked police information systems. He was at one time the Far-East Regional General Manager for Control Data Corporation (CDC), with a staff of 300 and annual budget of 1.5 million (1970’s) dollars. His team received a South Korean Presidential Citation for developing the first software and hardware solution to control the flooding of the Han River. Fred shows strong analytical and leadership capabilities. Fred was an instructor at Arizona State University. When Katrina struck, he volunteered. Since then, Fred has responded to hurricanes, floods, tornados, wild-fires, and one each blackout, heat wave, and transit strike. He has responded to many major disasters and numerous exercises in supervisory and management positions. His current position is Chief External Relations responsible for managing community relationships.(Preparedness). Fred is Senior Volunteer Partner to the Northeast Division Disaster Executive. As such, he is Publisher/Editor of the Division’s Disaster Quarterly Newsletter. Fred is the architect and developer of ActTak. This is a MS Access action tracking database system that allows DR Partner Services Managers to have instant tracking of all action requests to and from PS during a DR. Fred received the Diversity Award for 2008 from his Region (ARCGNY).
