NML’s mission is to steward buildings research to mitigate the worst effects of climate change, and successfully commercialize software solutions for the sector-wide decarbonization of buildings. Our leadership consists of out-of-the-box thinkers with decades of combined experience in research and practice in the Architecture/Engineering/Construction (AEC) industry. We are firm believers in the philosophy of first principles, so our typical approach involves deconstructing the problem into its constituent elements, and re-engineering a solution ground-up with simplicity and modern technology at its core. Every established industry has practices that are built upon generations of experience and know-how. Pioneers and practitioners often do not have the resources to evaluate why a specific solution was adopted to begin with, and often incremental solutions are built on top of an existing foundation to keep progressing. However, once in a while, a novel technology comes along that has the potential to radically change the status quo. We believe that the AEC industry is fast approaching such a cusp of fundamental technological transformation. Our current projects are designed to responsibly ask the ‘why’ questions to re-evaluate conventional wisdom, and devise contemporary solutions to some of our longstanding problems.
