This work involves researching tribological problems (friction, lubrication and wear) relevant to aerospace vehicle and propulsion system applications. Serves as aerospace research engineer to support the space mechanisms research effort at NASA-GRC. Duties include one or more of the following research activities pertaining to the tribology of space mechanisms: operation of Spiral Orbit Tribometer and data interpretation; Vacuum Tribometer setup, operation, and interpretation; space lubricant selection, application, and evaluation; space mechanism hardware evaluations; space mechanism test rig design, development, operation and research. Due to the nature of the research applications for space mechanisms, much of the work involves the study, analysis and testing of components which must operate under harsh conditions of vacuum and extreme temperatures. Duties may also include monitoring contractors engaged in this work.
