About Francesca Polito
I am an experienced educator, researcher, and senior interdisciplinary innovation and design leader. My research and practice areas are highly focused on innovation, design + development practice, education, and social justice - how we consider vulnerabilities of the societies we design and build products for, and how we train and educate practitioners in these fields to be more inclusive and aware and to incorporate best practices for social justice, human rights, dignity in their practice. I\'m a lecturer at University of Maryland and Maryland Institute College of Arts and teach courses in UXD, Product Management, The Business Side of UX, Foundations of Technology and Innovation, Technology Culture, & Society. I specialize in courses that teach future UX and Human Centered practitioners to not only succeed in business environments but drive value. My research is in the areas of STEM equity, design and development of educational products needed for 21st century learning, Design, Engineering and Computer Science Education, and process and workflow practices of user centered design and development professionals in innovative business units. I\'ve worked as a UX design director and executive creative director creating user-rich cross-platform digital, mobile, web, print, and experiential experiences and products. I have worked with Fortune 500 companies, publicly traded companies, private companies, startups, and nonprofits and played a role in both leading and building multi-disciplinary teams to deliver simplified, elegant, value-driven user experiences for highly complex problems with diverse scope in the B2B and B2C marketplace. My design and research skills have been applied to cross-platform UX, web, application, gamified design, print, branding, experiential design, retail, tv, advertising, digital media, and content.
