Mr. Putzu currently serves as Senior Advisor, National Security and Nonproliferation, in the Global Security, Technology and Policy division, of PNNL with a focus on legal and policy frameworks for the control, security, and nonproliferation of weapons and materials. His portfolio includes matters such as small modular reactors, strategic arms control regimes, and nuclear security and safeguards.Prior to PNNL, Mr. Putzu served as Counsel, Naval Reactors, a joint Department of the Navy (DON) and Department of Energy (DOE) Program providing effective nuclear propulsion plants for Navy ships. As Counsel, NR, Mr. Putzu was responsible for legal services and provides legal, administrative, business, and policy advice to the Director, NR, a 4-star admiral. Additionally, Mr. Putzu advised the senior leadership of NR on legal and business issues associated with nuclear energy and nuclear waste, Government contract law, civilian personnel law, fiscal law, international treaties and agreements, environmental law, ethics, and associated litigation. Mr. Putzu is also a subject matter expert on legal and policy matters in investigations and reviews on sensitive, high-profile matters of profound consequence to the DON, the Department of Defense and the Nation.
