ABOUT FRANCISCO A.

I lead AI and data science teams that turn complex data into real clinical impact: Better diagnostics, effective therapeutics, improved patient outcomes. With 25+ years across pharma, public sector, and academia, I\'ve learned that the most valuable computational solutions, including AI, are not necessarily the most novel—it\'s what actually works for patients and clinicians. That philosophy has shaped how I build teams, choose problems, and deliver solutions- What I do now: As Director of Bioinformatics, leading AI at Genomics England, I\'ve built our applied ML capability from the ground up, pioneered GenAI and other foundation model applications for different types of data, and established strategic partnerships with industry that combine our unique datasets with external innovation- What I bring: Track record of scaling AI/ML from proof-of-concept through production in regulated healthcare environments. Experience building and retaining high-performing cross-functional teams (ML engineers, data scientists, bioinformaticians, domain experts). Deep technical grounding in deep learning, NLP, multi-omics/-modal integration, and cloud platforms (AWS SageMaker, Bedrock). 110 publications, H-index 50, competitive funding across sectors.Previously at UCB, I led cross-functional data science across neurology and immunology, delivering ML solutions that improved patient stratification and accelerated therapeutic development. At the Luxembourg Institute of Health (LIH), I built and led bioinformatics and computational biomedicine teams focused on cardiovascular and oncology research, securing competitive funding and establishing international research partnerships that shaped the institution\'s data science capacity.I\'m motivated by building teams that solve hard problems at the intersection of AI and healthcare and research, and by developing the next generation of leaders in this space.
