ABOUT FRANCINE WEISS
As a collaborative and visionary leader with 25 years of experience in museum administration, curating, and academia, I bring a diverse skill set in strategic planning, fundraising, personnel management, and exhibition production. From 2016 to 2024, I served as the Director of Curatorial Affairs & Chief Curator at the Newport Art Museum in Rhode Island, where I led numerous successful initiatives and cultivated strong relationships within the art community.My career has also included roles at major institutions such as the National Gallery of Art, Harvard Art Museums, Museum of Fine Arts Boston, deCordova Sculpture Park & Museum, and the Photographic Resource Center at Boston University, where I managed large budgets, spearheaded high-impact exhibitions, and gave public talks and tours. Additionally, I have taught at Wellesley College, Boston University, Simmons College, and New England College.A broadly trained art historian with specialized expertise in photography, contemporary art, and American art, I am committed to sharing my knowledge through publications and public speaking. My dedication to DEAI is central to my work in programming, staffing, acquisitions, and fostering a positive, inclusive work culture.I have appeared on \"Open Studio with Jared Bowen\"(GBH/PBS) and NPR and my exhibitions have been reviewed in: BBC Persian, The NYT, Boston Globe, Women in the Arts, Art Daily, Big Red & Shiny, Art New England, and Artscope.I have been honored with major grants and awards from the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery, Georgia O\'Keeffe Museum, The Huntington, Center for Creative Photography, and Harry Ransom Center.
