ABOUT FRANCESCO AVALLONE

I am an aerospace engineer looking for new challenging projects and opportunities. I am resulted oriented professional, team leader and with experience in working in an international environment. I studied at the University of Naples where I obtained both my master (2011) and PhD degrees (2015). In April 2015, I moved to the Netherlands to join the wind energy section of the AWEP Department of the Delft University of Technology as member of the exploratory team of the new Aeroacoustics Chair. I like the idea of being one of the former member of a new section, since I think it is extremely stimulating and rewarding. During the PhD I worked on boundary layer induced transition in the hypersonic regime. It is a topic of interest for the design of scramjets or of the thermal protection system for re-entry vehicles. Recent technologies are pushing toward reusable space vehicles (see recent SpaceX successes) and, as a consequence, the topic is becoming more relevant for the industry. I was awarded with a personal grant (STAR Linea 2) to perform part of my research abroad (I decide to spend my period abroad at TU Delft). At the TU Delft I am working on aeroacoustics. I am focusing on airfoil noise reduction for wind turbine and propeller applications. I am leading several activities by supervising students and building contacts with industrial partners. Together with the scientific research activities, I am working on writing scientific proposals to be awarded withs grants to support my research and the growth of the group. I define my self as a team leader because I am able to motivate people and obtain the the best form them. The first time I had to act as a team leader was at the Nunziatella Military School where I was appointed as head cadet. I lead a team of 80 cadets. I see myself, in the near future, as a project leader since it gives me the chance of having a top and diagonal views of the projects (i.e. both technical and economical).
