ABOUT FRANCESCA DI FURIO

If you can’t see a solution it does not mean it doesn’t exist, you are just blind to it” (H. S.). The charm of this quote is what brought me to science in the first place. I always found extremely powerful and challenging the idea that the perspective from which we look at a biological phenomenon is the key in unraveling the mystery behind. Moving from basic science towards a more translational research I started looking at biology like a puzzle. I am passionate about building new knowledge and communicating it to different audiences and I believe these represent the first steps towards the bigger picture: the translation of biological understanding into the clinic. On this note, I seek opportunities where I can put my strong scientific background at service of human health contributing to drug discovery/development at the preclinical/clinical phase and generate a concrete impact on patients’ lives.I am a goal-oriented researcher with 7 years of experience applying knowledge in cellular and molecular biology to the fields of Microbiology and Regenerative Medicine. As a result of a balanced mix between team work and autonomous management of projects I have been expanding the knowledge in the field of stem cell biology and virology, optimizing protocols, contributing to the development of a diagnostic device and to the evaluation of target/drug candidates.Through my experience I developed skills relevant to industry:• Innovative problem solver with project management skills and experience meeting tight deadlines resulting in 11 abstracts and 6 papers• Exquisite teamwork and relationship building skills with experience coordinating experiments resulting in the set-up of 3 cross-functional collaborations and in $2 million grant funding• Dynamic communicator and mentor able to fine-tune scientific information based on the type of audience as evidenced by university presentations and by training 160+ students at different educational stages
