ABOUT FRANCES MARIA PEACOCK
CHARTERED ARCHITECTURAL TECHNOLOGIST, CHARTERED BUILDING ENGINEER, HERITAGE CONSULTANT, FIRE ENGINEER, FIRE INVESTIGATOR and PUBLISHED AUTHORFollowing the Grenfell Tower fire of June 2017, I began some research aimed at assisting the inquiry by providing answers as to why the fire behaved and spread in the way it did. My research looked at the effect of building geometry upon the spread and behaviour of fire; the overall shape, geometric form and architectural features of the building. In October 2019, I released a detailed technical report which introduces a new branch of fire science called as Architectural Fire Dynamics. As a result of my work, it is now possible to predict how a fire will spread and behave on a building if it has combustible materials on the facade. This can be applied in five key areas: architectural design, firefighting, testing (of materials and construction types), fire investigation and the remediation/mitigation of unsafe buildings. My principles are now being applied in some of these areas. I have also given several presentations on my work, both in the UK and abroad. My research is now in its second phase and I intend for my work to be published as an academic scientific/technical paper in a fire safety journal or as a book. I have passed the Level 6 EWS1 course on External Wall Assessment, which is administered and managed by the RICS.For details of my reports, please visit which is the website for my research and fire investigation work. The website for my fire safety work (risk assessments, fire strategies, fire statements and fire safety advice) is I currently work as a Senior Fire Engineer at FR Consultants (Romsey, Hampshire), but also as a Heritage Consultant to MP Architects (Ongar, Essex). I also have two businesses: FMP Architecture & Conservation, and Olympus Fire Safety.
