ABOUT FLIS PITMAN

I am a skilled and enthusiastic creative and cultural community and education manager, with a focus on (but not limited to) music-making, poetry, drama and storytelling. In my previous role as Creative and Cultural Project Officer at New Forest District Council, I had the pleasure of coordinating Folio, New Forest Arts and Culture Network. With over 200 members, including freelancers, arts and heritage organisations of various sizes, and NPOs, I supported the running of a yearly programme of training and networking events, as well as providing regular opportunities for information and engagement online. Whilst working at Hampshire Cultural Trust as Cultural Development Manager I was able to work closely with partners in Rushmoor including Rushmoor Borough Council to support the development of creative and cultural activity. In a former role as Community Engagement Manager at Anvil Arts in Basingstoke, Hampshire, I created, developed and managed numerous projects that aimed to provide access to creative activities for people of all ages and abilities. I identify funding streams, and create opportunities with local partners from both within and outside of the creative sector. I support local artists in developing their skills and offer opportunities for creative leadership within projects. I pride myself in being able to link artists and projects, therefore developing their CPD as they progress through their career whilst working in professional environments. I also support the work experience of young people from local colleges and universities. I am also the former Chair of the Board of Directors at Fluid Motion Theatre Company, which creates theatre and runs community projects around mental health issues. I still support the organisation and am involved in All in the Mind annual performing arts festival in Basingstoke, which aims to generate conversations around mental health through the arts. I guest lecture at the University of Winchester on the topic of professional communication in arts organisations and how to engage organisations as a freelancer, which highlights careers in the creative and cultural sector.
