ABOUT KENNETH SUTHERLAND
Been a programmer since the early Gone through various cycles in the industry starting of with Games development in mainly C/C++That was short lived due to the market with a number of companies in Dundee going under.Progressed onto mobile phone games with J2ME. This was in the ages when Snake was standard, but a variety of larger colour phones were coming in.The next move was into the business sector of software, which was a breath of fresh air in comparison to the game industry. I was hired do develop Java, but ended up mainly doing Flex (which is essentially a programmatic language for Flash).Did this for many years, specialising in this area as I gained experience. For a number of years I used this skilled set to do contracting work, working in start-ups, to games development, to payment systems, to enterprise sized banking platforms. This was carried out all over the UK and into Europe.Having travelled for a number of years doing contract work in my speciality, settled back into a permanent job in order to diversify my skillset. Due to my experience I remained a Flex engineer for a number of years, occasionally dipping into other languages such as Sencha touch /Ext JS, Java, Javascript/HTML.Then around 2017 I fully left the Flex world of code and transitioned to doing JS. This was a variety of Angular, with a bit of React and now it is mainly React.Although mainly front end, as part of a larger team I do complete the full stack of code within the team including the various build mechanisms and pipelines, but most of my work is in the front end code base.
