ABOUT FLAVIO VIDIGAL
I was never meant to be in advertising.Back in 2002, in my small Brazilian town, I was the guy who made the internet do more than regurgitate TV spots. “Digital activation” meant pasting a print ad on a website and calling it a day. It felt lazy. Dead on arrival. I wanted to make things that belonged in this messy, flickering, slow-loading new world. If someone was going to give me that much time, I wanted to give them something worth it.That curiosity got me labeled the digital guy. But it was never about the tech. It was about making things. A website, a film, a stunt, a product, a song. Whatever it took to keep the idea alive. Eventually, everything became digital. My edge wasn’t the tools. It was carrying an idea across any medium without losing its pulse.Brazil was my training ground. At JWT, Grey, and CUBOCC (now Droga5 São Paulo), we turned thin budgets and big ambition into stories that had to earn their way into people’s lives. Then Geometry Global (OgilvyONE) opened the door to global work. Renault. Nissan. One decision could ripple across continents. That set me up for Beijing. At BBDO Beijing, we pitched Volkswagen’s “People’s Car Project,” inviting a country to co-design the car of the future. The first submission came from a kid in a rural province. Crooked. Pixelated. Perfect. Then came New York. Firstborn, Huge, VML, Ogilvy, Meta. At Firstborn, we scaled fast without losing our edge. HUGE was tech meets storytelling for Google, Hublot, and Comcast. VML dragged New Balance into Fashion Week. Ogilvy was war rooms, red-eyes, and the Ford “pitch of the century.” Meta was about making AI human at a global scale, in real time.By 2021, I’d had enough of the machinery. Too many layers between the idea and the people making it. So we built Rise Global Creative. Small. Senior. Borderless. No fat. No safe bets.Cannes Lions, Ad Age Top 10, Forbes. All nice. But the real win? The work still feels like the stuff I wanted to make back in 2002. Alive. Unpredictable. Built for people, not decks.Creativity isn’t a career. It’s a way of noticing. The crack in the sidewalk. The wrong word in a headline. The idea that shouldn’t work but might. You feel the fear. You do it anyway.
