ABOUT TONY FISHER

I am the Executive Chair of the Fisher Jones Greenwood LLP solicitors, part of the Lawfront Group. I have over 40 years’ experience in private legal practice and have been listed as a leading practitioner for corporate and commercial work in both the Legal500 and the Chambers directories for a number of years. I have an MBA in Legal Practice and I am a member of various trade and business organisations. In January 2018 I was awarded the Modern Law Lifetime Achievement Award for my work in the legal profession. Others who have received this award include Baroness Hale the former President of the Supreme Court, and in 2023 Dame Fiona Woolf former President of the Law Society and Lord Mayor of London. In October 2018 I was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Essex at the University Centre Colchester. I amd also a CEDR accredited mediator. Aside from my commercial work, I also undertake international and domestic human rights work and have appeared as an advocate in the European Court of Human Rights on many occasions. I have also been a Fellow of the Human Rights Centre at the University of Essex and I am acting chair of the Human Rights Committee of the Law Society of England and Wales. I am also a member of the International Committee and the Access to Justice Committee. I was also a member of the Council of the Law Society as the representative for the Essex constituency for 12 years. In March 2022 I was appointed as the UK representative on a Committee of Experts on the Protection of Lawyers at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg. The Committee’s job has been to draft a new instrument protecting the rights of lawyers. That work has now been completed and it is hoped that the new convention will be open for ratification in 2025. The convention is intended to be a binding instrument and if ratified by ten countries it will be the first internationally binding instrument concerning the rights of lawyers in the world.
