About Fredrick A. Jenet

I create and empower businesses, institutions, and programs that are helping to build a sustainable global space ecosystem, molding the way humans will go into space — and making a meaningful difference here on Earth.Two things I love to do are explore space and make an impact in community development. Here in Brownsville, Texas I have been able to successfully pursue both of these passions. An astrophysicist and professor at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley for 15 years, I am committed to the idea that education is one of the core pillars of space development. Early on, I focused on integrating research, leadership, and communication for students within difficult technical fields. I founded and secured ~$50 million in funding for the first Center of Excellence in South Texas for space exploration. One of our flagship projects was a fully operational control room, the Arecibo Remote Command Center, allowing students to make discoveries that impact scientists all around the world. Next, I created and developed the STARGATE program, a strategic alliance with SpaceX, focused on developing technologies that can be commercialized and used in the NewSpace economy. To kickstart this program, I secured ~$10 million in state and federal funding. Our facility is located adjacent to the SpaceX Commercial Launch Facility in Boca Chica.In 2019, in collaboration with an experienced team in commercial space development, I founded the mission-driven nonprofit Expanding Frontiers. This organization is pioneering advanced programs in education and outreach, accelerating the growth of a space and energy innovation ecosystem in Brownsville, Texas.I’m proud to be a player in making Texas one of the focal points of the new commercial space race. I have also been invited to speak all over the world on the topics of \"Socioeconomic Development Fueled By Commercial Space Exploration,\" “Bringing Together the Oil and Gas and Commercial Space Industries,” as Expanding Frontiers has done with our Rockets and Rigs collaborative partnership, the ways new technologies are contributing to building a better world for our future, and more.
