ABOUT FIONNUALA MONE FRCPI FRCOG

Having completed my training in O&G I achieved dual membership with the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and Royal College of Physicians in Ireland (Gold Medal). I then completed two clinical fellowships, the first in the National Maternity Hospital Dublin as an RCOG accredited sub-specialty trainee in maternal fetal medicine during which time I also completed a PhD based upon the first multi-centre clinical drug trial in pregnancy in Ireland \'An Open-Label Randomized Controlled Trial of Low Dose Aspirin with an Early Screening Test for Pre-eclampsia and Growth Restriction – TEST Study\'. I then secured funding to complete a second fellowship in Prenatal Genetics where I also completed an MSc in Genomic Medicine (Distinction) via the West Midlands Fetal Medicine Centre and Regional Genetics Service and the University of Birmingham. I was subsequently appointed as a substantive Consultant Obstetrician and Sub-specialist in Maternal Fetal Medicine at Birmingham Women\'s Hospital where I collaboratively provided a bespoke prenatal genetics clinic and MDT as well as being a member for the Genomic Rare Disease Advisory Board where I facilitated the education and service development of prenatal exome sequencing in NHS England. I specialised in fetal therapy with skills in fetoscopic lazer ablation for twin-twin transfusion syndrome in addition to other advanced clinical procedures and was the clinical lead for antenatal and newborn screening. Since then I have recently moved home taking a clinical academic and consultant post at Queen’s University Belfast. Having around 60-peer reviewed publications, several book chapters as well as being an invited speaker and award winner in my areas of specialist interest I am actively involved in clinical research in prenatal genomics and fetal maternal medicine. I am the genetics editor for Ultrasound in Obstetrics & Gynecology, elected co-chair for the ISPD SIG on fetal imaging and phenotyping as well as board member for the British Maternal Fetal Medicine Society where I am abstract co-ordinator and conference organiser.
