Teaching English Language Arts to grades 6-8-Developed my own curriculum and lesson plans-Incorporated media and creative writing in my lessons-Teaching the after school 8th grade ELA test prep for TACHS (The Test for Admission to Catholic High Schools.)-Supervising Pre-K classes during support period three times a week. I am helping them work on their literacy skills-Ran The Tablet Jr. journalism club at SHCA. This was a wonderful opportunity to use my writing degree to get the best writing out of my passionate and motivated students, and it’s truly an honor that SHCA was selected as a Tablet Jr. school. Three of my students are now published authors. I also supervised the students who made wonderful artwork for the Tablet. The theme for the year was community, participating and call to family-Running the after school ELA extra help sessions-Ran the after school book club for winter and spring 2025. For the winter session we read The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. For the spring session we read Rumble Fish by S.E. Hinton-Mentored 7th Grade students for the Holy Name Society scholarship. The scholarship awards its winner $500 towards their tuition at SHCA. This scholarship asked 7th Grade students to write about what their faith means to them-Mentored 8th Grade students for the ONCA scholarship (Our Neighbors Civic Association of Ozone Park, INC.) This scholarship awards its winner a $500 scholarship. This scholarship asked 8th grade students to write an essay about where they live and why they love living there. The essays my 8th graders wrote were so well written that the committee at ONCA picked two winners from SHCA instead of just one-Ran New York State ELA Test prep with 6th and 7th grade students-Running in class ELA related research debates for grades 6-8-Doing afterschool.
