About Fiamma Guacarán Guerrero

My heart beats to the rhythm of the Caribbean and the Puget Sound. In 2010, at 18 and fresh out of high school, I left Venezuela with just $50 in my pocket, no English, and no plan B—only a burning desire to succeed and the need to find a better future for my family and me. Originally, my plan was to move temporarily to learn the language and save money to pay for my studies back home, however, as soon as I landed in Seattle I fell madly in love with the Pacific Northwest. The beauty of this city made me realize I needed to readjust my goal: instead of being here short-term to make some cash and return home, I needed to set solid roots so my parents and siblings could come to a safer home here. Through this journey, I learned countless things about myself—both as a person and as a professional. I learned the language and discovered that being an immigrant is tough, but I can be even tougher. I learned how to navigate the corporate world and have fun in the process, and found out that creative minds have a place in the tech space. The experiences I’ve had over the years have shaped me into the person I am today: someone who works incredibly hard to reach positive outcomes no matter the circumstances. I believe in community, in people helping each other succeed, in learning just for the sake of learning and improving yourself as a human being. I value mentorship, listening carefully to others, and always finding ways to give back, because those who took a chance on me 14 years ago helped me get to where I am now.…and where is that, you may ask? I’m still in Seattle. I’ve fulfilled my dream of retiring my parents, and they now live a few blocks away from me. My brother and sister both live in nearby neighborhoods. My abuela, niece, cousins, aunt, and uncle are all close by. We all have lunch together almost every weekend. I work at my dream company, Nintendo. I have a million more things to learn, but that burning desire to continue succeeding is intact. Life is great, but I’m excited to see where the next $50 will take me:)If you made it here and would like to connect, please reach out! Let’s build community together.
