   As an EIS Officer assigned to the Puerto Rico Department of Health, I lead public health investigations and implement disease prevention strategies across a variety of areas, including vector-borne diseases, foodborne outbreaks, and respiratory illnesses. I have conducted epidemiological analyses and strengthened surveillance systems for diseases of public health importance, such as influenza, COVID-19, and dengue. My work includes:Vector-Borne Disease Response: Developed and evaluated novel vector control tools, including Passive Emanators and BiteBarrier®, and conducted dengue outbreak interventions in Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands. Collaborated with local health departments and federal partners to align efforts with regulatory and cultural considerations.Foodborne Disease Outbreaks: Conducted outbreak investigations and surveillance evaluations to improve food safety and public health response mechanisms. Delivered timely data analyses and actionable recommendations to prevent future incidents.Respiratory Illness Surveillance: Analyzed influenza and COVID-19 surveillance data, identifying trends during outbreaks, evaluating test-to-treat initiatives, and generating recommendations to enhance system effectiveness. Supported the development of Puerto Rico’s wastewater surveillance program for arboviruses, integrating findings into public health strategies.Public Health Engagement and Communication: Delivered culturally sensitive public health messaging and bilingual educational materials to communities. Organized training sessions for clinical providers, health professionals, and community leaders to support vaccine initiatives and vector-borne disease prevention efforts.Emergency Preparedness: Played a critical role in response to hurricanes and flooding events, coordinating emergency distribution of mosquito control kits and other health resources.
