ABOUT SHELDON FERNANDES

Keystone (noun) 1: the wedge-shaped piece at the crown of an arch that locks the other pieces in place 2: something on which associated things depend for support 3 (keystone species): a species of plant or animal that produces a major impact on its ecosystem and is considered essential to maintaining optimum ecosystem function or structure (Merriam-Webster) I’ve spent a significant part of my career working with Canadian and global businesses who operate in the commodities space - oil & gas, mining, electricity, pulp & paper, among others. As commodity providers, the baseline for these businesses is often strictly cost, and as such, for these businesses, concerns around climate change are often seen as a risk to be mitigated, in contrast to an innovation driver that can stimulate investment. This is slowly but surely changing, with catalytic organizations working on this push, and I’ve worked with many of them as well - scientists, filmmakers, academics, start-ups, ENGOs, investors, governments, and more. I strive to be a keystone in moving all forms of organizations towards an economically efficient sustainable future, specifically by engaging with them through a technical, policy, and ultimately strategic lens. I\'m always happy to grab a coffee and chat with other professionals about how best to implement positive change in the world. Please reach out to me via LinkedIn, or through tidalbreak.ca. Expertise- Climate action and policy levers in Canada and the Asia Pacific region - Greenhouse gas accounting including quantification, reporting, and verification - Climate, net zero, and energy strategy - Business strategy
