ABOUT FERNANDA CHAVEZ-HERNANDEZ

Hello! My name is Fernanda Chavez-Hernandez and I am a first-generation student at the University of Washington pursuing a B.S. in psychology and a minor in Spanish on a premedical track. Driven by my experience from growing up in a Hispanic immigrant household, my passion lies in reducing the stigma of mental health in the Latino culture and the disparities faced by marginalized communities within the healthcare system. I am fascinated by neuropsychology and neurobiological systems, and am especially drawn to understand how factors such as drug abuse, addiction, and everyday stressors reshape, and rewire the brain.I aspire to become part of the 7% of Latine psychiatrists in the U.S. and be the representation that the field needs for culturally responsive and equitable mental health care in underserved communities. Always happy to connect with others, so feel free to reach out!
