About Fernanda Chavez-Hernandez
Hello! My name is Fernanda Chavez-Hernandez and I am a first-generation student at the University of Washington pursuing a B.S. in psychology and a minor in Spanish on a premedical track. Driven by my experience from growing up in a Hispanic immigrant household, my passion lies in reducing the stigma of mental health in the Latino culture and the disparities faced by marginalized communities within the healthcare system. I am fascinated by neuropsychology and neurobiological systems, and am especially drawn to understand how factors such as drug abuse, addiction, and everyday stressors reshape, and rewire the brain.I aspire to become part of the 7% of Latine psychiatrists in the U.S. and be the representation that the field needs for culturally responsive and equitable mental health care in underserved communities. As a UC at the Navos Psychiatric Hospital I have gained experience in clinical exposure in a behavioral health setting, supporting nursing staff in delivering patient-centered care. With monitoring patient safety, conducting routine checks, and implementing safety protocols for individuals with acute psychiatric needs. Collaborates closely with interdisciplinary teams and serves as a liaison between patients and providers, strengthening communication and continuity of care.
