ABOUT FELIX TANN

I work at the intersection of intellectual property law, emerging technologies, and sustainability - advising clients as an Associate at KNPZ Rechtsanwälte in Hamburg and conducting research as a Researcher and PhD candidate at the Bucerius IP Center, Bucerius Law School. My advisory work covers trade mark law (including EU trade mark prosecution and opposition proceedings before EUIPO), unfair competition law with a particular emphasis on green claims and sustainability advertising (EmpCo implementation, UWG reform), and the legal challenges arising from emerging technologies such as AI, Web3 and blockchain. My doctoral dissertation examines the IP and unfair competition law protection of artificial neural networks - addressing AI bias, black-box systems, and innovation barriers from an IP perspective. & I publish regularly in leading German and international legal journals and contribute to major practitioner handbooks. I am currently co-editing three forthcoming volumes,(Elgar Commercial Law and Practice, Edward Elgar Publishing, forthcoming Winter 2027)- a multi-author international handbook with approx. 20–30 contributors examining the regulation, compliance, and enforcement of green claims from a global comparative perspective (co-editor: Prof. Dana Beldiman, Bucerius IP Center / UCSF)-(C.H. Beck, forthcoming Summer 2026)- covering greenwashing, social washing, green claims, ESG and related areas of law (co-editor: Dr. Mathias Zintler)- 3 (C.H. Beck, forthcoming Summer 2026)- covering AR/VR/XR, blockchain, DAOs, generative AI, crypto, NFTs, and smart contracts (co-editors: Prof. Dr. Eric Wagner, Dr. Marc Ruttloff, Dr. Oliver Scherenberg) Selected recent publications: GRUR-Prax (green claims, EU trade mark opposition, virtual goods), GRUR 2022 (trade mark protection in the metaverse), Springer (IP in Fab City / circular economy contexts), Nomos (Rechtshandbuch Metaverse). Lecturer at Bucerius Law School in AI & Law, Emerging Technologies, Sustainability & IP Law, and Music & Law. Seminar speaker at BeckAkademie on green claims and greenwashing in practice (2026).
