ABOUT FEDERICO GAITAN

Federico Gaitán is a prominent criminal law attorney with a specialization in human rights. Currently a doctoral ( SJD) candidate in international law at Washington College of Law American University, residing in Washington D.C. Since his 20s Federico has built a prestigious career marked by his unwavering commitment to justice and human rights advocacy.He earned his JD degree from the University of Buenos Aires (UBA), specializing in criminal law at Torcuato Di Tella University (UTDT). He holds an LL.M. in International Human Rights Law and International Humanitarian Law from American University’s Washington College of Law (AU-WCL). He also has participated in numerous seminars and conferences on Genocide and Human Rights, in Latin America, United Sates, Canada and Armenia, including International Association of Genocide Scholars bi annual meetings and the 100th Anniversary of Armenian Genocide in Erevan, Armenia.Federico has been a leading figure in prosecuting human rights violations committed during Argentina\'s last military dictatorship. From 2014 to 2017, he served as the lead private prosecutor in the ESMA and Death Flights Mega Trial on behalf of the Centro de Estudios Legales y Sociales (CELS), a case involving 56 accused and over 800 victims.As President of the Argentine Armenian NGO Luisa Hairabedian Foundation, Federico spearheaded efforts that led to the historic 2011 ruling by an Argentine federal court, recognizing the Armenian Genocide under Argentine law, international human rights law, and the UN Genocide Convention ( Truth Trial of Armenian Genocide). He continues to focus the Foundation’s work on several cultural and educational programs, including the 20 years old selection program for Latin americas young scholars to attend the Genocide and Human Rights University Program at the University of Toronto, organized by the International Institute of Genocide and Human Rights Studies. Federico also serves on the board of The Zoryan Institute and is a Visiting Scholar at the Center for the Study of Genocide and Human Rights at Rutgers University. He leads his own law firm, Gaitán Hairabedian Abogados, and is lecturer on Human Rights and Constitutional Law at the University of Buenos Aires Law School.Fluent in both English and Spanish, Federico is a respected voice in international legal circles, dedicated to advancing human rights and justice on a global scale.
