ABOUT FERNANDO CASTELLANOS

Talented Geophysicist with 8+ years of combined experience in seismic reflection data analysis, acquisition and processing as well and in microseismic and induced seismicity data processing for monitoring anthropogenic activities. Throughout my career, I enjoy extracting valuable information out of complex datasets using my programming skills and domain expertise so my team, clients and others involved can make insightful decisions. I am analytical, goal-oriented and with strong attention to details. I am also big on defying the status quo and find ways to make processes more efficiently.I have a M.Sc. in Physics, my thesis focused on scientific programming where I applied the double-difference relocation technique to improve accuracy of microseismic clusters in an underground uranium mine. I enjoyed coming out with new algorithms, interpretation and communicate my findings in journals and conferences. I am also very passionate about Earthquake Seismology and its leading-edge topics.Through my work experience in seismic reflection exploration, I\'ve been part during different key stages of seismic acquisition (2D and 3D): project starts, daily QC and client interaction, geophysical parameter testing and data deliverables. I have worked on geometry, statics, velocity analysis, KPSTM, demultiple, data deliverables. I enjoy a fast-paced environment and delivering the best product in a short turnaround, that is key to gain client’s trust.I enjoy programming, as this allows me to be creative, solve a geophysical or non-geophysical problem and optimize a process, i.e, simplify users’ life. I have recently become more interested in GIS, and I am completing a Coursera Specialization. I am also passionate about pipeline leak detection, I am writing a second paper in this topic. My hobbies include playing Sports (specially basketball, soccer and baseball), cooking and travelling. Specialties: Microseismic & induced seismicity acquisition, processing, modeling (ex: event detection and location, double-difference inversion, magnitude calculation, velocity model building, array design), noise analysis using PPSD. Seismic reflection acquisition and processing (ex: noise attenuation, statics, velocity analysis, demultiple, data deliverables), data inspection and visualization, technical report writing, research, software prototyping, process improvement.Soft skills: Team and project management, problem-solving, attention to details, critical thinking, mentoring, strong written and verbal communication, team player, time management, adaptable.
