Enhanced catalysts heating efficiency by optimizing rotary equipment drum design, material properties, and heat transfer mechanisms in rotary drums, applying technical skills that improved process performance• Conducted particle dynamic simulations using discrete element method (EDEM) to study effects of particle size, surface roughness, cohesion, and flow regimes on rate of heat transfer of powdered particles, leading to improved understanding of heat transfer dynamics in powdered particles• Executed experimental validation for temperature distribution with an infrared camera while adhering to GLPs and utilizing MATLAB for data analysis, confirming accuracy of simulation models and enhancing data reliability• Developed baffle configurations and addition of fines, which reduced thermal time and improved temperature uniformity between the particles (2x faster heating and 5x more uniform temperature distribution) demonstrating effective process optimization• Presented the research developments and process efficiency improvements at semi-annual consortium meetings to several industrial partners with clear communication and collaborative problem-solving
