ABOUT FERNANDO B. A.
I am a medical device innovator, CTO, and Resident Medical Officer with over seven years of experience in biomedical engineering, medical device development, and clinical practice—combining clinical expertise, deep technical acumen, and leadership skills. I hold an MD from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and an MRes in medical robotics and image-guided intervention from Imperial College London. I am currently completing my PhD in Clinical Medicine Research in Surgery and Cancer at Imperial College London and have full GMC registration. In my current role as a Resident Medical Officer for postoperative and critical care patients, I provide medical care and oversight to ensure optimal patient outcomes during recovery. Concurrently, I serve as the CTO of a startup in stealth mode, where I lead the development of cutting-edge medical technologies that aim to transform patient care and outcomes.Previously, I was a Clinical Insights Consultant Physician at Cambridge Design Partnership, where I generated and analyzed actionable data to develop user-centric medical systems and devices using structured research methods and data analysis tools. I also worked as a Senior Consultant in Clinical Systems Engineering at TTP plc, applying model-based systems engineering (MBSE) principles to design and deliver complex medical devices and systems.I have a track record of innovation, demonstrated through multiple patents, publications, certifications, and awards. Notably, I was named an MIT Technology Review Innovator Under 35, received best paper awards at Medical Robotics and Endoscopic Surgery conferences, invented the EndoDrone device, and co-invented the SIMPLE device—a novel approach to single-incision micro ports laparoscopic endosurgery. I also serve as a peer reviewer for \"Sensors\" and the European Association for Endoscopic Surgery (EAES)\"Surgical Endoscopy\" journals.Passionate about solving organizational challenges, driving innovation, and improving patient outcomes, I am forward-looking and ready to leverage my unique blend of skills and domain expertise to excel in future roles.
