Worked from 19••••02, for various UK police forces and other law-enforcement organisations in the capacity of a high-tech crime investigator. I developed various bespoke specialist tools for data recovery and forensic analysis, including tools for recovery of passwords from encrypted Microsoft Office documents (WFWCD, my freeware Word 95 password cracker, is an example of an early version of these tools).While learning about cryptography, I developed TinyIDEA, a 503-byte freeware PC file encryption program (written in x86 assembly and released with source code), using the IDEA block cipher encryption algorithm. This was an exercise to create a complete secure file encryption program that would fit on one disk sector (half of 1Kb).Completed and submitted my PhD thesis on cryptanalysis of symmetric-key ciphers in 2001, and was awarded PhD in Information Security, from RHUL, in 2002. During my PhD studies, I investigated a weakness in the design of Twofish, a proposal for the US Government\'s Advanced Encryption Standard (AES).Worked as a self-employed data security specialist consultant from 20••••06, in London, working on contract-basis for various commercial, government and law-enforcement organisations.Joined the School of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science (formerly known as NUST Institute of Information Technology), NUST, Pakistan, in 2006 where I taught and worked on various security-related subjects.In 2013, I resumed working in the commercial sector, offering security consulting services in specialist technical areas. Started working for Huawei at their European Research Centre (ERC), Munich, in December 2014, focused on researching and developing security technologies, and assessing the technical security of Huawei products.
