ABOUT FATIMA S.

I am a second year social worker student at University of Salford, extremely passionate about advocacy, mental health and youth voice.As a Peer Champion for Higher Health I have promoted the programme to students during welcome week at different campuses at University of Salford. As a Peer Champion I will offer support and help others engage in the programme, take part in career fairs and hopefully visit colleges or community settings to promote the programme. During the programme I have learnt soft skills such as conflict resolution, empathy, problem-solving, growth mindset and more, which is very crucial as a future social worker as it leaves a positive, long-lasting impact on people with lived experiences lives.I aspire to become a Children and Family Social Worker, wanting to support young people and their families through challenging, tough times and empower them for positive change. I strongly believe that young people’s voices should be listened to and respected. I want to challenge discrimination, especially when young people are ignored for being “too young.”My goal as a future social worker is to give hope to young people and families by standing by their sides and help them through their tough times, empower them and support them to build a stronger, brighter future together. I want to create safe places where they can feel respected and understood, and challenging any barriers that they face.For me, social work is about bringing hope to young people and their families, making sure that they can live their best life possible after receiving the help that they needed, and making sure that they can stay independent and thrive in life.
