ABOUT FATIMA IRFAN
Hey there! I\'m Fatima, a second-year undergraduate student at the University of Toronto who is especially passionate about community impact and is driven by a strong interest in social services. I thrive in roles that require empathy, communication, and management and am always seeking oppurtunities that enable me to contribute meaningfully to equity, inclusion, and well-being within communities.Since highschool, I have played an integral role within my community through volunteer work. After recognizing the underrepresentation and lower participation rates of girls in sports, I earned an executive position on my school\'s Athletic Council to empower young females. To address this issue, I directly advocated for more events catered towards girls and marketed intramurals towards the female population. I firmly believe that women should have equal access and oppurtunities across all sectors, and sports are no exception. Through this experience, I strengthened my leadership, advocacy, and communcation skills while deepening my commitment to inclusivity.Similarly, right now, I am actively building on these experiences by engaging in oppurtunities that allow me to support community well-being, advocate for equity, and empower individuals, particularly women and youth. I am always eager to gain more knowledge regarding the unique needs and experiences of diverse groups, as I believe comprehending these perspectives is essential for creating an environment that is safe to all. For example, I took SOC228 (Introduction to Indigenous Studies) this past summer to gain insight of Indigenous peoples and their history, challenges, and accomplishments. Going forward, I am committed to applying this knowledge to foster inclusive environments that promote social justice.Outside the professional world, I love staying active! I especially like to be surrounded by nature and playing football with my friends. Both on the field and trail, I value the balance and ease these activites bring to my life. In the near future, I am interested in gaining more experience in the social services sector, specifically in areas related to youth programming, mental health support, and equity-focused intiatives. Ultimately, my goal is not solely to support exisiting program but, to reshape them into more equitable, inclusive, and accessible spaces!
